September 1 is the deadline for receipt of entries in the 2008 James Scarth Gale translation prize for non-fiction pieces of writing on Korea, hosted by the Centre for the Study of Korea at the University of Toronto. The top prize is $2,500.
The objective of the prize is to promote and make public materials useful for teachers of undergraduate courses on modern Korea. Appropriate translations include academic essays, series of newspaper articles, magazine features, and original archival sources, among others.
